Rev. Roderick Schultz

Senior Pastor

Pastor Rod Schultz was born July 15, 1966, baptized into the Christian faith on December 4, 1966, and is a life-long member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He attended Bath Public Schools through 8th grade, at which time he transferred to St. Matthew Lutheran High School in Holt, Michigan where he met his wife, Sheryl. Both graduated in June, 1984 and attended Lansing Community College. They were married on June 14, 1986. Their union was blessed with four children: Joshua (Amy), Erik (Eva), Justin, and Sadie (Bradley). They are thrilled to be grandparents to eight active and wonderful grandchildren (Claire, Madelyn, Micah, Anna, Olivia, Lucy, Charlotte and Estella).

In June 1989, Pastor Schultz and his father started a steel fabrication and erection business located on the family farm in Bath, Michigan. This allowed him the flexibility to coach his children at the community and high school levels in both soccer and basketball. In the spring of 2001, after a great amount of prayer and conversation with his pastor, parents, and in-laws, he returned to school to complete a degree in Business prior to entering the seminary.

In 2004, Pastor Schultz graduated from Baker College in Flint, Michigan with a Bachelor of Business Administration, and then in May 2008 from Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, Indiana with a Master of Divinity. He was ordained in August 2008 and installed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dearborn, Michigan. Following the closure of Our Redeemer in July 2019, he served as vacancy pastor to St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Westland, Michigan from July 2019 to July of 2020.  In May of 2021, Pastor Schultz accepted a call to St. Luke to serve as their senior pastor and was installed on June 20, 2021.

In his free time Pastor enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren, having a cigar on the porch with his faithful companion Riley the labradoodle, watching a good soccer match at every level of skill, reading both theological and fictional books, watching a good movie, and cooking and grilling.

“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.” (2 Thess. 2:16-17)
